Skill Level: All Levels
Duration: 30 minutes
Number of Players: 8 - 20 players
Objective: This is a modified version of jeopardy and charades. Students pick a category and point score, act it out and the first team to correctly call out the category wins a point for their team.
Instruction
1. Copy the following layout onto a whiteboard. The points represents the difficulty level for each category (100 point score = easy, 400 = hard).
Categories |
Point Score |
|||
100 |
200 |
300 |
400 |
|
| Animals | ||||
| Emotions | ||||
| Movies | ||||
| Occupation | ||||
Team A |
Team B |
For each category, write down on a piece of paper a point score and a vocabulary according to it's level of difficulty.
For example:
Animals |
Elephant (100 Points) |
Whales |
Zebra (300 Points) |
Hippo (400 Points) |
2. Divide the class into two teams. Ask for a representative from one of the teams to come up to the front of the class, and to choose a score and a category. For example "...animals for 200 points". Show the student the paper with the vocabulary and related score.
3. Give the student a time limit of 60 seconds to act out the vocabulary for their team mates to guess. If the team correctly guesses the vocabulary they score the point and they can continue to pick one more point score and category. The 200 point box for Animals is crossed out. The team with the highest score wins.
Game Variation
This variation is good for vocabulary review and you can add categories according to your choice of vocabulary words. A first team chooses a question and a point score, and you ask a question.
Example:
- The team selects a category Movies a point score of 200 points. You then ask the following question:
This movie is about the adventures of a famous archeologist, who goes in search for the Ark of the Covenant. Harrison Ford Stars in this movie. What is the name of the movie?
Answer:
